Painting by Roerich “The Pearls of the Quest”

The picture shows the teacher and student. They bent over the “necklace” in search of that only pearl, without which the present day would have been wasted. Necklace and in the eastern and western symbolism personifies eternity. The search is not destined to end, for only the cognizant is worthy to be a Guru Teacher, and only the seeker is able to find the truth for himself alone.

Guru and disciple are depicted against the backdrop of dazzling Himalayan mountains, covered with eternal snows. N. K. Roerich poetically expounds the thoughts about the eternal quest that the teacher and disciple must pass through, learning the truth: “Again a messenger, again Your order! And a gift from You, Vladyka, You sent me your pearl and ordered to include it in my necklace. But You know, Vladyka, my necklace is fake, and it’s long, like only the fake things are long, Your sparkling gift among the dull toys will drown. But You ordered, I will fulfill. “

The variety of life is like a pearl necklace. It can be both genuine and fake beads. Without experience, without the Teacher, they can not be recognized. But Teacher does not offer an easy solution. He himself is in new searches and carries with him the disciple. Cognition is an eternal search, a constant ascent to new truths. No matter how much a man knows and knows, all his knowledge is only a step to knowledge even more complete and higher. There is no end to knowledge.
