Biography Shackley Robert

Robert Shackley was born in 1928 in New York. After the service in the army he graduated from New York University. He started writing early, and from 1951 he became a professional writer. It is considered one of the leading representatives of satirical and humorous NF USA.
The first publication is dated 1952 – “The Last Check”. In the late 70’s he worked as editor of the prose department of the magazine Omni. Long led a “nomadic” way of life, constantly changing his place of residence in the US and Europe. What is gratifying, recently visited Russia. And even gave an interview.
The success of the humorist and satirist brought the stories of the mid-fifties, presented in collections – “Untouched by the Hands of Man”, “Citizen in Space”, “Bench of Infinity”. Later stories are combined in collections – “Trap for people,” “Do you feel anything when I do this?”, “Same

for you – in a double size,” “The Amazing World of Robert Sheckley.”
Although most of Shekli’s works are full of fervent and sparkling humor, they clearly reveal the author’s anxiety for the person’s ability to cope with his inner world (the desire to destroy). In “Absolute Weapons” the most clearly expressed idea is that human aggressiveness can become a weapon more powerful than the most perfect technical super-weapon. More lenient humor permeates many stories about contact and aliens: “Not touched by the hands of man” (1952), “The smell of thought” (1953), “Leech”.
His work is very diverse and interesting. The most probably an interesting spaceship in the NF, whose crew members are at the same time also its “component parts”, forming in the aggregate a working biomechanism, is drawn in his stories – “Specialist” (1953), “Form” (1953). Another inexhaustible source of inspiration Shackley-satirist and humorist – robots, terrestrial and extraterrestrial: “Mutiny
of the boat” (1955), “Special prospecting” (1959), “My double robot” (1973), “Robot Rex”, etc. Cybernetic an anti-utopia in which criminals are caught and punished with the help of an electronic “vulture”, is depicted in “The Guardian-Bird” (1953). The story “The Thief in Time” (1952) is also devoted to the problems of criminology of the future. In the playful “Battle” (1954) Armageddon represents the final battle of cyberdemons against cyber-gangs. In contrast to the traditionally folklore supernatural beings in The Demons (1953), the hero of the accountant account (1953), a boy from the family of sorcerers, dreams, it turns out, of a more prosaic profession of “normal” people. With the inherent shine and wit inherent in Shekli, delicate problems of sex and eroticism are solved in the stories: “The Ideal Woman” (1954), “Pilgrimage to Earth” (1956), “The Language of Love” (1957), “And do people do it?” (1972), “Do you feel anything when I do this?” .
