Biography of Michelle Kwan


Michelle Kwan, a figure skater, was born on July 7, 1980 in Torrance, California. Most known as the Sino-American five-time world champion in figure skating. At birth, she received the name of Kwan Wing Shan.

Michelle was nine times awarded the title of US Champion, five times world champion. In the early 1990s, Kwan took part in competitions at the national level. In 1996, and also from 1998 to 2005 she received gold medals in the National Championship. In 1996, 1998, 2000, 2001, 2003 the sportswoman won the title of world champion in figure skating. Kwan also participated in the Winter Olympic Games. So in 1998 at the Olympics she earned a silver medal, and in 2002 – a bronze medal.

In 2006, the figure skater had to participate in the Winter Olympic Games in Turin, Italy. However, she withdrew from the team, abandoning the games because of a groin injury. At the same time, Kwan said that she will speak only when she can show the maximum program, which she is capable of.
