Benefit and harm from the computer

In a short time, from the appearance of the first computer to their mass application, computer technology has conquered the whole world. Today it is impossible to imagine an engineer, an economist or a doctor without the use of computers. Personal computer (PC) has become an indispensable assistant in solving a wide variety of tasks. Using a computer allows you to organize the educational process in a new way: it is much easier and faster to develop memory, attention, spatial imagination, the ability to find dependencies, patterns, classify and systematize the material, the ability to predict the results of your actions.

The information environment – along with natural, spatial-geographic, social, cultural, landscape-architectural, etc. – plays an increasingly important role in professional activities and in the daily life of modern man. The information environment, often referred to as the noosphere, is not homogeneous: it has recently been customary to single out

the Internet environment or “cyberspace” within which specific forms of human behavior are manifested.

Despite all the advantages provided by computer technology, it is the source of a number of unfavorable physical factors affecting the functional state and health of users. In case of improper operation and placement, especially in unsuitable premises, the computer modifies the conditions and nature of the work of users of different profiles, sometimes not for the better.

Computer is the use and danger

Adverse factors

Among the factors that worsen the health of users of computer equipment, include the following:

Air pollution by harmful substances, dust and positive air ions.

A dangerous voltage level in the electrical circuit, the closure of which can lead to electric shock.

A wide spectrum of electromagnetic radiation, which includes X-ray, ultraviolet and infrared fields.

Increased level of electromagnetic radiation.

Risk of fire and fire from overheating of electronic components of the computer.

Lack of or lack of natural light.

Insufficient

illumination of the working area by local lighting.

Increased brightness of the local light source.

Reduced contrast of the display screen.

Glare the screen of the monitor.

Increased pulsation of the light flux (flicker of the image).

Long stay in one position and repetition of the same type of movements, leading to a syndrome of prolonged static loads.

Mental overstrain, caused by the complexity of the tasks being solved.

Increased load on the organ of vision, resulting from viewing a large amount of information.

Nervous-emotional and stressful conditions.

Computer and the emotional state of the user

It is established that users of personal computers are subject to stresses to a much greater extent than workers of any other professional groups who have ever undergone similar tests, including air traffic controllers. Other health complaints include a “veil before the eyes”, a rash on the face, chronic headaches, nausea, dizziness, mild irritability and depression, fatigue, the inability to concentrate for a long time, disability and sleep disturbances. Long-term work at the computer is associated with constant irritation, the source of which can be different situations. Probably, there is no such person who never “hanged” the computer with the loss of unsaved data or there were no problems with any programs.

Possible adverse effects

The consequences of the adverse effects of physical factors that accompany the operation of the computer on the health of users are described in numerous research papers by Russian and foreign scientists. In these works, the following possible consequences of the impact of computer systems on the human body were found: eye diseases and visual discomfort, changes in the musculoskeletal system, stress-related disorders, skin diseases, adverse pregnancy outcomes. According to the “Hygienic criteria for assessing and classifying working conditions for indicators of harmfulness and the hazards of factors in the work environment, the severity and intensity of the labor process,” the working conditions of users of personal computers can be classified as hazard class 3 of hazard class 1.

Consequences of violation of the rules of work on the computer

If you regularly violate the rules for the operation of computer equipment, in the case of prolonged work at the computer, a person may have violations from certain organs and systems, and even some diseases, among them:

Development of muscle weakness and pain in the cervical spine, changes in the shape of the spine;

Pain in the joints;

The emergence of psychological discomfort, nervous overwork, nervous breakdowns, stressful situations, depression;

Vision fatigue, accompanied by tearing, pain in the eyes;

Disorders of the endocrine system;

Disorders of the cardiovascular system;

Change in biochemical processes at the cellular level;

Violation of the course of pregnancy.

The main diseases of the spine, which develop due to a long time at the computer, are osteochondrosis and curvature of the spine. If the possibility of developing the curvature of the spine is great at an early age, then osteochondrosis and its consequences are dangerous for people of all ages.

Osteochondrosis is a disease accompanied by a dystrophic change in the intervertebral discs, which can lead to herniation (protrusion) of the disc, damage to the spinal cord and departing from it nervous processes and, as a consequence, the occurrence of pain in the back, limbs and internal organs, up to paralysis of limbs and death.
